MWTA team spirit lifts them up-to podium finishes at WAKO World Cup!
Report by, Mr Michael Mair, 1st degree
MWTA this year sent its elite fighting team to Rimini, Italy for the 14th WAKO Bestfighter World Cup; this tournament is recognized as one of the top fighting competitions around the world with fighters from all over the world. It took place from the 5th to the 7th of June, at the 105 Stadium in Rimini.
Having previously attended this competition as a team, this year the bar of ability and talent on show had been raised yet again across all divisions, MWTA established themselves in a fantastic manner getting 3 podium places, a first at these championships for the team.
Joann Rolison led the way with winning her Light contact division, and fought an amazing final bout, looking comfortable throughout, scoring head kicks consistently, and covering well. Miss Lucy Wolf, fought her way through to the final beating stiff competition on the way, including current World champions to face Bianca Barada in the final. The final was a very close encounter, with both fighters evenly matched, however Barada edged ahead, and piped Miss Wolf in the final seconds, a fantastic silver Lucy can be proud of.
Next on the medal list was “Mr TKD”, Richard Belle, his efforts were rewarded with 2 days fighting, a fantastic first day on the points circuit, seeing him compete against some of the top point fighters in the world and winning, followed by a great day of light contact, big hitters in Richard’s division, and Mr Belle stood up and took a deserved bronze medal.
Other team-mates consisted of Jamaine Hemmings, Ben England, Jack England, Steve Morgan, Christian Thomson, Rhianne O’Neill, Michael Mair, all of which were accompanied by Master Wolf and wife Mrs Wolf, and Mr Forbes England and wife Mrs England.
The competition was a fantastic experience, and a great competition for people stepping up to win at top level, the group travelled together and socialized together in a fantastic manner.
New team member Michael Mair commented - “I have fought in many Scotland teams, fighting teams across the country and Europe, however as my first time with MWTA travelling, I can honestly say, it was the most friendly, hospitable trip I have been on with any team! The team spirit is fantastic, a factor in the success of any team, and one I’m happy to be part of, thank you to everyone on the team”
Having a few days social time, the team took time out from the schedule to build on great experience, with a bike ride, which became competitive and gave a few laughs, and also trips to the pool and beach.
The competition was fantastic, this team is fantastic, and the memories are forever.
